Sight Equipment Vehicles

We are determined that no one should be denied access to our services because they are unable to visit us at our offices in Poole. To achieve this we operate our Sight Equipment Vehicles, which travel around the County promoting the charity and taking low vision equipment to our members in their own homes enabling them to touch and try out the equipment and order if they wish.

The service was originally started in the west of the County using a van which was kindly donated by a local businessman, Alan Old of Olds Portesham.

The success of the service in the West was so great that part of our lottery bid in 2008 was to try and secure funding to extend this in to the East of the county. In March 2009 we were successful with the Big Lottery and now have funding for this county wide service for the next five years.

Following on from this success in July 2009, the Gannett Foundation sponsored by the Daily Echo’s American parent company Gannett awarded us with £7500 to enable us to purchase a replacement sight vehicle for the original van and we now have two Renault Scenics you may see around.

With two sight equipment vehicles we are also now able to organise sight equipment exhibitions during the year selling new equipment and recycling donated sight equipment, either on loan to those less well off or onwards for a donation.
